It was a musical weekend for the Minnesota Film Critics Alliance, with several members reviewing the new film “In the Heights.” Those reviews followed a week of MNFCA members sharing their thoughts on the new “Conjuring” film and much more.
Here’s what the Alliance has been up to lately.
Joe Botten
For his site, Botten reviewed “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” “Super Frenchie,” “Awake,” “In the Heights” and “Queen Bees.” Additionally, Botten wrote about 1986’s “SpaceCamp” and previewed the Tribeca Film Festival.
Brian Eggert
At Deep Focus Review, Eggert reviewed 2021 releases “The Amusement Park,” “Spiral,” “Plan B,” “Undine,” “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” “The Unholy” and “In the Heights.” Eggert also wrote a piece on 1985’s “Day of the Dead.”
Kelly Florence and Meg Hafdahl
In recent episodes of Horror Rewind, Florence and Hafdahl talked about the tour for their latest book they’ve co-written and discuss “The Conjuring: the Devil Made Me Do It.”
Joseph Froemming
For The Joe-Down review series, Froemming wrote about the 2015 reboot of “Vacation.”
Kyle Goethe
On his site, Goethe reviewed the new musical “In the Heights.” He was also joined by fellow MNFCA member Nicholas Palodichuk on the series Kyle and Nick on Film to discuss last year’s “Sound of Metal,” as well as “Poseidon Adventure,” “Earthquake” and “The Towering Inferno,” all from the 70s.
Paul McGuire Grimes
For his Paul’s Trip to the Movies series, Grimes reviewed “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” “Spirit Untamed,” “In the Heights” and “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.” Grimes also spoke with cast/crew members of the third “Conjuring” and “In The Heights.”
He appeared on the June 4 and 11 episodes of Twin Cities Live as well.
Eric Houston
For North Metro TV, Houston produced a video about the career of actress Lucille Ball. Houston also released a video review of 1994’s “Twin Sitters” for his Bad Movie Bros series.
Melinda Lavine
At the Duluth News Tribune, Lavine wrote a preview for the community’s Movies in the Park event.
Jeremy Lebens
At the Daily Rotation, Lebens reviewed “The Conjuring 3” and “Flashback.”
Frank Lee
For the Brainerd Dispatch, Lee wrote about “Cruella,” “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” and “A Quiet Place: Part II.”
Matthew Liedke
At his site, Liedke reviewed “The Conjuring 3,” “Dream Horse” and “In the Heights.” Liedke also wrote a piece about his favorite summer-related movies.
Ruth Maramis
For FlixChatter, Maramis reviewed “Undine,” “Dream Horse” and “In the Heights.” Maramis also wrote a piece about the career of Morgan Freeman, who celebrated his 84th birthday on June 1, and another article regarding memorable summer swimming scenes.
Mark McPherson
At his site, McPherson reviewed “In the Heights” and “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.” McPherson also wrote about “Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” at Film Inquiry and produced a video review about the new Netflix movie “Oxygen” on YouTube.
