The Alliance Lately: Issue No. 43

Post-turkey day releases in theaters and on streaming services have kept MNFCA members busy.

Minnesota critics recently have reviewed “House of Gucci,” now playing in theaters, “Power of the Dog” on Netflix, and much more.

Here’s what the Alliance has been up to lately.

Joe Botten

At his site, Botten reviewed the new holiday movie “8-Bit Christmas.”

Brian Eggert

For Deep Focus Review, Eggert reviewed new releases “House of Gucci,” “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City,” “The Power of the Dog” and “Belfast.” He also wrote about 2006’s “Volver.”

Kelly Florence and Meg Hafdahl

On the Horror Rewind podcast, Florence and Hafdahl discussed the new “Resident Evil” film and recapped some of the other things they’ve been watching, such as “Squid Game.”

Hunter Friesen

At the Northern Iowan, Friesen wrote a column about why he’s thankful for films and reviewed the Netflix movie “The Power of the Dog.”

Joseph Froemming

For his Joe-Down series, Froemming reviewed 1997’s “Steel” and 1991’s “Drop Dead Fred.

Kyle Goethe

On the YouTube series Kyle and Nick on Film, Goethe was joined by co-host Nicholas Palodichuk to discuss “Batman: The Long Halloween (Part One, Part Two),” recent release “Titane,” 1987’s “Blood Diner,” 1997’s “Playing God” and 1995’s “Things to do in Denver When You’re Dead.”

Paul McGuire Grimes

For his series Paul’s Trip to the Movies, Grimes reviewed new releases “Single All the Way” and “Encanto.” He also appeared on the Nov. 22 and Dec. 3 episodes of Twin Cities Live.

Frank Lee

At the Brainerd Dispatch, Lee reviewed the new “Clifford” adaptation and “House of Gucci.”

Matthew Liedke

For his site, Liedke reviewed new releases “Home Sweet Home Alone,” “House of Gucci,” “Encanto,” “Tick, Tick… Boom,” “The Power of the Dog” and “Red Notice.

Ruth Maramis

On FlixChatter, Maramis published a double review of “Passing” and “The Forty-Year-Old Version.” She also wrote about her five favorite songs from “West Side Story” and reviewed “I’m Your Man.”

Mark McPherson

At his site, McPherson reviewed the new “West Side Story” and wrote a column on how box office numbers correlate with a film’s success. McPherson also published a YouTube video about 1946’s “Beauty and the Beast.

Nicholas Palodichuk

On the St. Paul Filmcast, Palodichuk interviewed writer/director Eric Forsman and voice over actress/teacher Jessica Mraz.

T.A. Wardrope

At Twin Cities Geek, Wardrope wrote about the film series “Welcome to the Blumhouse.” Specifically, Wardrope reviewed “Bingo Hell” and “Manor.”
