The Alliance Lately: Issue No. 59

More reviews on the latest Marvel film have poured in from critics across Minnesota, with a variety of opinions on the new picture.

“Thor: Love and Thunder” wasn’t the only movie under review recently, though. Smaller pictures such as “Marcel the Shel with Shoes On” and “Where the Crawdads Sing” were also covered in recent weeks.

Here’s what the Alliance has been up to lately.

Joe Botten

At his site, Botten reviewed new films “Dreaming Walls,” “The Sea Beast,” “Where the Crawdads Sing,” “Don’t Make Me Go,” “Gone in the Night,” “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris,” “Persuasion,” “She Will” and “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On.”

Brian Eggert

On Deep Focus Review, Eggert reviewed new releases “Both Sides of the Blade,” “Thor: Love and Thunder,” “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On,” “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris,” “Where the “Crawdads Sing” and “The Gray Man.” He also wrote about 1980’s “Raging Bull.”

Kelly Florence and Meg Hafdahl

On the Horror Rewind podcast, Florence and Hafdahl continued their look at the fourth season of “Stranger Things” and also discussed the film “Malevolent.”

Joseph Froemming

For his Joe-Down series, Froemming wrote about 1997’s “Air Bud” and 1999’s “For the Love of the Game.”

Kyle Goethe and Nicholas Palodichuk

For their series Kyle and Nick on Film, the duo talked about 1942’s “This Gun for Hire,” 1955’s “The Big Combo,” 1972’s “Frenzy,” 1999’s “The Thirteenth Floor,” 2003’s “High Tension” and 2017’s “Get Out.”

Paul McGuire Grimes

For his series Paul’s Trip to the Movies, Grimes reviewed “Persuasion” and “Where the Crawdads Sing.” He also appeared on the July 15 episode of Twin Cities Live.

Matt Hambidge

At News From The Couch, Hambidge reviewed “Thor: Love and Thunder” and “Where the Crawdads Sing.” He also spoke about Marvel’s “Thor” sequel on the Cinema Stubs podcast.

Danny Haslach

On the FilmBird podcast, Haslach co-hosted an episode about the 10 most essential summer movies.

Frank Lee

For the Brainerd Dispatch, Lee wrote about “Thor: Love and Thunder,” as well as “Minions: The Rise of Gru.”

Matthew Liedke

On his site, Liedke reviewed “Thor: Love and Thunder.” He also ranked all 29 Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

Ruth Maramis

At FlixChatter, Maramis reviewed “Thor: Love and Thunder,” “A Call to Spy,”  “The Sea Beast” and “Where the Crawdads Sing.” She also appeared on Minnesota Public Radio’s MPR News with Angela Davis.

Mark McPherson

At his site, McPherson reviewed “The Black Phone” and “Paws of Fury.” He also wrote about “Thor: Love and Thunder” for Film Inquiry.

Frank Stanko

On the Pop Culturists, Stanko continued his look at films from 1998 with pieces on “Dirty Work” and “Can’t Hardly Wait.”

Tyler Strandberg

At the website Cinefied, Strandberg reviewed the film “Don’t Make Me Go.”
