The Alliance Lately: Issue No. 61

A mix of digital and theatrical releases were the focus of Minnesota film critics recently.

Many members reviewed the new entry in the “Predator” franchise, “Prey,” released on Hulu, as well as new movies in the cinema like “Bullet Train” and “Bodies Bodies Bodies.” Find out what the Alliance thought about those movies and others released lately.

Joe Botten

At his site, Botten reviewed new releases “I Love My Dad,” “Prey,” “They/Them,” “Fall,” “Summering,” “WifeLike,” “Bodies Bodies Bodies” and “Emily the Criminal.” Botten also wrote about “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial” for the film’s 40th anniversary.

Brian Eggert

For Deep Focus Review, Eggert reviewed 2022 films “Bullet Train,” Luck,” “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” “Prey,” “They/Them,” “Fall,” “Resurrection,” “Thirteen Lives,” “Glorious” and “Beast.”

Kelly Florence and Meg Hafdahl

On the Horror Rewind podcast, hosts Florence and Hafdahl discussed the series new series “Boo Bitch” in one episode and Nathan Fielder’s show “The Rehearsal” in another.

For his review series The Joe-Down, Froemming wrote about the sports biopic “Invincible.”

Jay Gabler

At the Duluth News Tribune, Gabler reviewed the foreign film “Memoria” with Tilda Swinton and wrote about the new documentary “Hockeyland” about the sport at the high school level in Minnesota.

Kyle Goethe and Nicholas Palodichuk

For their YouTube series Kyle and Nick on film, the hosts reviewed 1946’s “The Big Sleep,” 1981’s “Thief,” 1982’s “Cat People,” 1987’s “Prom Night II,” 1996’s “Trees Lounge,” 2005’s “Brokeback Mountain” and 2007’s “Timecrimes.”

Paul McGuire Grimes

For his series Paul’s Trip to the Movies, Grimes reviewed “Prey,” “Easter Sunday,” “Luck,” “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” “They/Them” and “The Black Phone.”

Matt Hambidge

On the Cinema Stubs podcast, Hambidge co-hosted an episode about the new “Predator” film “Prey” and another episode on the action movie “Bullet Train.”
