Minnesota Film Critics Alliance Member Profile: Ruth Maramis

Ruth Maramis is a Rotten Tomatoes-approved movie critic and filmmaker in the Twin Cities. She writes about movies at FlixChatter, and was also writer and executive producer for her film “Hearts Want.”

Here’s more about Maramis:

How long have you been producing content about movies?

At least 10 years.

Where do you live and/or produce content about movies?

Twin Cities.

What type of content do you produce about movies?

Film/TV reviews, filmmaker/cast interviews, various entertainment-related lists, film commentary, etc.

What motivated you to create content about movies?

It’s a channel to express my passion for movies and also the desire for discussion about them amongst fellow movie fans. A few years ago, I’ve also started making films. The first film I wrote and produced,“Hearts Want,” is now available on Amazon Prime.

What inspired your love of movies?

I’ve always been passionate about movies since I was a kid and watching movies together with my family had been one of my favorite memories. My late father was working in the film industry as well, so I guess you could say film is in my blood.

What do you enjoy most about living in Minnesota?

Coming from a place that’s overpopulated and over-polluted, I never take the fresh air and blue skies for granted. Beautiful scenery in all four seasons – even in the Winter time when the weather can be brutal, I always pause to admire the beautiful snow-covered branches after a snow storm.

What is your favorite movie theater in Minnesota?

I like the Alamo Drafthouse in Woodbury, as well as the CMX Theaters in the Mall of America (most comfortable seats ever!)

What are some of your favorite movies from the past year (2019)?

I posted my Top 10 in this post, which includes “A Hidden Life,” “The Farewell,” “Parasite,” “Marriage Story” and “Little Women.”

What are your favorite movies set in Minnesota?

I love “Sweet Land,” “Untamed Heart” and “Grumpy Old Men” made me laugh.

Where can people find your work?

https://flixchatter.net/  and  https://heartswantfilm.com/

Are you on social media platforms? If so what are your handles?

Yep.
