Halloween season is in full swing with MNFCA members producing a ton of content about horror movies, new and old. Several members also reviewed “Dune” and “The Last Duel.”
Here’s what the Alliance has been up to lately.
Joe Botten
At his site, Botten reviewed new releases “Hypnotic,” “Halloween Kills,” “Needle in a Timestack,” “The Last Duel,” “The Rescue,” “Night Teeth,” “Malignant” and “Dune.”
Botten also continued his 31 Days to Scare with reviews on “Deepstar Six,” “The Hand that Rocks the Cradle,” “Scream Pretty,” “Dead Calm,” “Sleepwalkers,” “The Seduction,” “Death Valley,” “Frankenstein,” “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “Mute Witness.”
Brian Eggert
At Deep Focus Review, Eggert wrote about 2021 films “The Last Duel,” “Halloween Kills,” “Dune” and “No Time to Die.” Eggert also wrote about 2014’s “Oculus” and 2019’s “Haunt,” as well a top 10 list of noir films.
Kelly Florence and Meg Hafdahl
Florence and Hafdahl republished Horror Rewind episodes of 2008’s “The Strangers” and 1996’s “Scream” in anticipation of their new book “The Science of Serial Killers.”
Hunter Friesen
For the Northern Iowan, Friesen reviewed “Dune” and “The Last Duel.” Friesen also hosted a horror movie trivia match on the League of Cinephiles YouTube channel.
Joseph Froemming
For his Joe-Down series, Froemming reviewed 1971’s “The Exorcist.” Froemming also wrote a review of “Halloween Kills.”
Kyle Goethe
As part of his 31 Days of Horror series, Goethe reviewed 2001’s “Bones,” 2006’s “The Grudge 2,” 2011’s “Paranormal Activity 3,” 2020’s “Underwater,” 1965’s “Gamera: The Giant Monster,” 1989’s “Sundown: The Vampire Retreat,” 2019’s “We Summon the Darkness,” 1989’s “Parents,” 1980’s “Contamination,” 2018’s “The Body,” 2005’s “Urban Legends: Bloody Mary,” 1981’s “Galaxy of Terror,” 1986’s “Trick or Treat,” and 1998’s “Halloweentown.”
For the series Kyle and Nick on Film, Goethe was also joined by fellow MNFCA member Nicholas Palodichuk to discuss 1984’s “The Initiation,” 1981’s “The Burning,” 2010’s “Beyond the Black Rainbow,” 1980’s “Altered States” and 1980’s “The Changeling.”
Paul McGuire Grimes
For his Paul’s Trip to the Movies series, Grimes reviewed “Halloween Kills,” “The Last Duel,” “Dune” and “Mass.” Grimes also interviewed the cast and crew of “Mass” and “Dune.”
Additionally, Grimes appeared on Twin Cities Live on Oct. 15 and 22.
Melinda Lavine
At the Duluth News Tribune, Lavine compiled opinions on horror movies from artists and filmmakers in northern Minnesota.
Frank Lee
For the Brainerd Dispatch, Lee reviewed “Halloween Kills” and “The Last Duel.”
Matthew Liedke
At his site, Liedke reviewed “Halloween Kills,” “The Last Duel” and “Dune.” Liedke also ranked the Daniel Craig-era James Bond films and released the first installment of his Adventures in B-Movie Horror series.
Ruth Maramis
At FlixChatter, Maramis reviewed “The Last Duel,” “Dune” and “Interlude in Prague.” Maramis also wrote reviews on films from the 2021 Twin Cities Film Festical, including “The Electrical Life of Louis Wain” and “Sold Out.”
