Alliance Lately: Issue No. 79

The summer movie season is rolling along with tentpole blockbusters continuing to headline cinemas.

Most recently, sequels to “Indiana Jones” and “Mission: Impossible” have been hitting the screens, and members of the MNFCA have reviewed them and many more films. They’ve also been sharing their favorite movies of 2023 so far.

Here’s what the Alliance has been up to lately.

Joe Botten

On his site, Botten reviewed new films “Run Rabbit Run,” “Blue Jean,” “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” “The Lesson,” “The Man from Rome,” “Insidious: the Red Door,” “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning,” “The Flood,” “Quicksand,” “Final Cut” and “The Miracle Club.”

Eli Brau

At Cinephile Corner, Brau reviewed recent releases “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” “Asteroid City,” “Sanctuary,” “Past Lives,” “R.M.N.,” “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” and “Sisu.” He also listed his top 10 films of 2023 so far and ranked the “Indiana Jones” series.

Brian Eggert

For Deep Focus Review, Eggert reviewed new movies “Joy Ride,” “Biosphere,” “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” and “Insidious: the Red Door.” He also wrote about 2007’s “Ocean’s Thirteen” and 2022’s “Final Cut.”

Hunter Friesen

At the Cinema Dispatch, Friesen reviewed the “Mission: Impossible” sequel “Dead Reckoning” and also ranked Christopher Nolan’s filmography.

Kyle Goethe

Goethe and was joined by fellow MNFCA member Nick Palodichuk to discuss 1933’s “Duck Soup,” 1967’s “The Graduate,” 1968’s “Bullitt,” 1983’s “The Right Stuff,” 1998’s “Following” and 2022’s “Argentina, 1985” for their series Kyle and Nick on Film.

Paul McGuire Grimes

For his series Paul’s Trip to the Movies, Grimes reviewed new pictures “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” and “Rock Hudson: All that Heaven Allowed.”

Matt Hambidge

At his site News From the Couch, Hambidge reviewed “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” and listed his top 10 films of 2023 so far.

Danny Haslach

The latest episode of Haslach’s podcast FilmBird centered on the new dramatic comedy “Asteroid City.”

Frank Lee

For the Brainerd Dispatch, Lee wrote about “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.” He also published a list of great baseball films to coincide with MLB’s All-Star Week.

Matthew Liedke

At his site, Liedke reviewed the comedy “No Hard Feelings” and Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City.”

Ruth Maramis

On FlixChatter, Maramis reviewed “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” and wrote about iconic scenes from the summer blockbuster “Jaws.” She also published a piece with three short reviews of recent movies “You Hurt My Feelings,” “The Mother” and “The Colour Room,” all of which were directed by women.

Additionally, she reviewed the documentary Lakota Nation Vs. The United States.

Mark McPherson

At his site, McPherson reviewed recent releases “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” as well as “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning.” He also published a video essay about the end of the DCEU.

Nicholas Palodichuk

On the St. Paul Filmcast, Palodichuk spoke with Matthew Liedke about the best of 2023 so far, upcoming films they’re excited for and the strike taking place in Hollywood.

Frank Stanko

At the Wahpeton Daily News, Stanko reviewed the new “Indiana Jones” film “The Dial of Destiny.”
