The Alliance Lately: Issue No. 86

November is in full swing and that means a mix of major releases and award contenders are coming out in theaters.

Some examples include the drama “Priscilla” and the new Marvel Cinematic Universe picture “The Marvels.” Both those films and many more recent releases have been reviewed by MNFCA members.

Minnesota critics also wrapped up Halloween with some horror reviews and recapped what they saw at the Twin Cities Film Festival.

Here’s what the Alliance has been up to lately.

Joe Botten

At his site, Botten reviewed new films “Sly,” “Quiz Lady,” “The Marsh King’s Daughter,” “Priscilla,” “Rustin,” “The Marvels,” “What Happens Later” and “It’s a Wonderful Knife.”

He also finished his 31 Days to Scare Halloween special with reviews for 1961’s “The Innocents,” 1968’s “Rosemary’s Baby,” 1978’s “Piranha” and 1987’s “The Witches of Eastwick.”

Eli Brau

At A Cinephile’s Corner, Brau reviewed recent releases “A Haunting in Venice,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Priscilla” and “The Marvels.”

Brian Eggert

For Deep Focus Review, Eggert reviewed new movies “All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt,” “Priscilla,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” “Rustin,” “The Marvels” and “The Royal Hotel.”

Hunter Friesen

At the Cinema Dispatch, Friesen reviewed new pictures including “Fingernails,” “The Taste of Things,” “American Fiction,” “Priscilla” and “The Marvels.” He also recapped the 2023 Twin Cities Film Festival, and also ranked the movies he watched there.

Jay Gabler

For the Duluth News Tribune, Gabler wrote about a new Hallmark Christmas film made in the Twin Ports.

Kyle Goethe

At his site GOAT Film Reviews, Goethe reviewed a pair of horror films, 1992’s “Dr. Giggles” and 2019’s “Satanic Panic.” He also reviewed the thriller “Foe,” which screened at the Twin Cities Film Festival.

Paul McGuire Grimes

For his series Paul’s Trip to the Movies, Grimes reviewed new films “What Happens Later,” “Five Nights at Freddy’s” and “Rustin.” He also appeared on ABC affiliate KSTP’s Twin Cities Live program on Oct. 31.

Matt Hambidge

At News From the Couch, Hambidge reviewed the new Marvel Studios film “The Marvels.”

Matthew Liedke

On his site, Liedke reviewed new movies “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” “Priscilla” and “American Fiction.” He also wrote about two B-movies for Halloween, 1989’s “Intruder” and 1998’s “Death Mask.”

Ruth Maramis

At FlixChatter, Maramis recapped the winners at the Twin Cities Film Festival, listed her six favorite horror movie scores for Halloween and reviewed the new film “What Happens Later.”

She also published a double review piece covering “Loren & Rose” and “A View of the World from Fifth Avenue,” both screened at TCFF.

Mark McPherson

At his site, McPherson reviewed the 2023 horror “The Nun II” and the comic book adaptation, “The Marvels.” For Twin Cities Geek, he also conducted an interview for with voice actor and writer Paul Rugg, who was at Twin Cities Con.

Additionally, he produced a video noting falsehoods in the 2023 film “Sound of Freedom.”

Nicholas Palodichuk

For their series Kyle and Nick on Film, Palodichuk was joined by Goethe to discuss 1993’s “The Dark Half” and 1995’s “Demon Knight.” As part of the series, he also reviewed 1991’s “Body Parts.”

Frank Stanko

At the Wahpeton Daily News, Stanko reviewed the new romantic comedy “What Happens Later.”

Tyler Strandberg

Strandberg reviewed the drama “All of Us Strangers” for InSession Film and the biographical film “Nyad” at the site Loud and Clear.
