A summer movie season with releases in theaters and on digital platforms is coming to a close and MNFCA members stayed busy reviewing the latest films to close out August.
Along with new movies, plenty of members produced content looking back at notable older films, too.
Here’s what the Alliance has been up to lately.
Joe Botten
At his site, Botten reviewed “Respect,” “The Night House,” “Candyman,” “Together” and “Vacation Friends.” Botten also wrote about the 25th Fantasia International Film Festival and the Bentonville Film Festival.
Brian Eggert
At Deep Focus Review, Eggert reviewed “Gaia,” “The Green Knight,” “Annette,” “Reminiscence,” “John and the Hole” and “Respect.” Eggert also wrote about 1991’s “Raise the Red Lantern” and 2006’s “Children of Men.”
Nicholas Erickson
For his YouTube channel, Erickson ranked his 10 favorite movies in his Blu-Ray collection and also vlogged about a recent watch of Alfred Hitchcock movies.
Kelly Florence and Meg Hafdahl
On their podcast Horror Rewind, Florence and Hafdahl discussed the TV series “Cruel Summer” and “Mare of Easttown.” The duo also hosted a Q&A episode.
Hunter Friesen
For the Northern Iowan, Friesen reviewed several movies he watched over the summer months. Friesen also wrote about “Red Rocket” and “A Hero,” which he watched at the Cannes Film Festival. Friesen also appeared on the Gold Derby Horses podcast recap of Cannes.
Joseph Froemming
For his Joe-Down series, Froemming reviewed 1973’s “Westworld” and 1989’s “The Wizard.”
Kyle Goethe
On the series Kyle and Nick on Film, Goethe was joined by fellow MNFCA member Nicholas Palodichuk to discuss 2016 films “Hacksaw Ridge,” “Nocturnal Animals,” “Hunt for the Wilderpeople,” “Train to Busan” and “Kubo and the Two Strings.”
Paul McGuire Grimes
For his series Paul’s Trip to the Movies, Grimes reviewed “Coda,” “Respect,” “Flag Day,” “The Protégé,” “The Night House,” “Candyman” and “Reminiscence.”
Grimes also interviewed the star of “Candyman” Yahya Abdul Mateen II. Additionally, Grimes appeared on Twin Cities Live on Aug. 13, 20 and 24.
Jeremy Lebens
At The Daily Rotation, Lebens reviewed the new releases “Free Guy,” “Don’t Breathe 2,” “The Protégé,” “Reminiscence,” “Vacation Friends” and “Candyman.”
Frank Lee
For the Brainerd Dispatch, Lee reviewed “Free Guy,” “The Night House” and “Reminiscence.”
Matthew Liedke
On his site, Liedke reviewed “Stillwater,” “The Suicide Squad,” “Respect,” “Free Guy,” “The Protégé,” “Candyman” and “The Night House.” Liedke also wrote his annual Summer Movie Awards for 2021.
Ruth Maramis
At FlixChatter, Maramis reviewed “Coda,” “Free Guy,” “The Protégé” and “Reminiscence.” Maramis also reviewed the documentaries “Val” and “The Lost Leonardo.”
Mark McPherson
At his site, McPherson reviewed “Shang Chi” and “Free Guy.” He also wrote an column about the “Film Bro” culture.
Additionally McPherson reviewed “Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway” for Film Inquiry and produced a video essay on the Criterion Collection film “The Lady Vanishes.”
Nicholas Palodichuk
On the St. Paul Filmcast, Palodichuk interviewed MNFCA member Brian Eggert, actress Charla Marie Bailey and actor Paul Economon.
