Summer is getting closer to the end but there are still some blockbusters hitting the big screen. New big releases “Jungle Cruise” and “The Suicide Squad” were reviewed by the MNFCA recently, as were a whole mixture of other films.
From new movies to look backs at older films, here’s what the Alliance has been up to lately.
Joe Botten
At his site, Botten reviewed several films, including “The Exchange,” “Ride the Eagle,” “The Last Mercenary,” “Monuments,” “Pooling to Paradise,” “Pray Away,” “The Suicide Squad” and “Annette.”
Brian Eggert
For Deep Focus Review, Eggert reviewed new releases “My Little Sister,” “Pig,” “The Suicide Squad” and “Bo Burnham: Inside.” Eggert also wrote about 1983’s “L’Argent” as well as a retrospective on the company Dark Castle Entertainment.
Kelly Florence and Meg Hafdahl
For their podcast Horror Rewind, Florence and Hafdahl discussed the 2020 film “The Hunt” as well as TV series “Evil” and “Los Espookys.” The duo also did an episode recapping other media watched in July.
Hunter Friesen
At Next Best Picture, Friesen reviewed several films he watched at the Cannes Film Festival. They included “Paris, 13th District,” “Titane,” “The French Dispatch,” “Nitram” and “Memoria.” Additionally, Friesen made an Instagram post discussing “The French Dispatch.”
Joseph Froemming
As part of the Joe-Down series, Froemming reviewed the films “Rookie of the Year” and “Space Jam: A New Legacy.”
Kyle Goethe
At his site, Goethe reviewed the drama “Stillwater” and the comic book adaptation “The Suicide Squad.” Also, on the series Kyle and Nick on Film, Goethe was joined by fellow MNFCA member Nicholas Palodichuk to discuss the movies “Blue Velvet,” “La La Land,” “The Neon Demon,” “The Talented Mr Ripley,” “Hidden Figures” and “Don’t Breathe.”
Paul McGuire Grimes
For his Paul’s Trip to the Movies series, Grimes reviewed “Jungle Cruise,” “Stillwater,” “The Suicide Squad” and “Annette.” Grimes also appeared on the July 30 and Aug. 7 editions of the series Twin Cities Live.
Melinda Lavine
For the Duluth News Tribune, Lavine reviewed the new Netflix thriller “Blood Red Sky.”
Jeremy Lebens
At The Daily Rotation, Lebens reviewed new releases “The Suicide Squad” and “Jungle Cruise.”
Frank Lee
For the Brainerd Dispatch, Lee reviewed the drama “Stillwater” and the fantasy “The Green Knight.”
Matthew Liedke
At his site, Liedke reviewed A24’s fantasy picture “The Green Knight.”
Ruth Maramis
For FlixChatter, Maramis wrote reviews on “Jungle Cruise,” “The Green Knight” and “Annette” as well as a look at Adam Driver’s career and the music in “The Greatest Showman.”
Mark McPherson
At his site, McPherson reviewed “Jungle Cruise” and “The Suicide Squad.” McPherson also produced a video essay about the Criterion Collection on his YouTube channel.
