The Alliance Lately: Issue No. 56

Blockbuster season is in full swing with classic franchises coming back to theaters.

Recently, Minnesota film critics continued to review the new “Top Gun” film “Maverick” and a few have published pieces about the upcoming “Jurassic World” feature “Dominion. Those are just a couple of the films analyzed by the MNFCA.

Here’s what the Alliance has been up to lately.

Joe Botten

At his site, Botten reviewed “Top Gun: Maverick,” “The Duke,” “All My Puny Sorrows,” “Montana Story,” “The Passenger,” “Dashcam,” “Unhuman” and “Jurassic World: Dominion.”

Brian Eggert

On Deep Focus Review, Eggert reviewed 2022 releases “Watcher,” “Phantom of the Open,” Hatching,” “Unhuman” and “Crimes of the Future.” He also wrote about 1990’s “Blue Steel,” 1991’s “Point Break,” as well as “Bergman Island” and “Don’t Look Up,” both from 2021.

Kelly Florence and Meg Hafdahl

On an episode of the Horror Rewind podcast, Florence and Hafdahl discussed the Marvel film “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.”

Hunter Friesen

At Next Best Picture, Friesen reviewed films shown at Cannes Film Festival for Next Best Picture, including “Broker,” “The Stars at Noon,” “Showing Up” and “Close.” He also provided Cannes coverage on The Critics Circle Instagram page.

He also participated in a trivia match for the League of Cinephiles YouTube series, which had two parts (1 and 2).

Kyle Goethe and Nicholas Palodichuk

For their YouTube series Kyle and Nick on Film, Goethe and Palodichuk discussed 1942’s “Cat People,” 1958’s “Vertigo,” 1997’s “Event Horizon” and 2001’s “Training Day,” as well as “The Godfather” and “Solaris” from 1972.

Paul McGuire Grimes

For his series Paul’s Trip to the Movies, Grimes reviewed the new Hulu film “Fire Island.”

Matt Hambidge

At News From the Couch, Hambidge reviewed “Top Gun: Maverick.” He also discussed the “Top Gun” sequel and other Tom Cruise movies on the Cinema Stubs podcast.

Danny Haslach

On the FilmBird podcast, Haslach co-hosted episodes about “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and “Everything Everywhere All At Once.”

Frank Lee

For the Brainered Dispatch, Lee wrote a summer movie preview and about “Top Gun: Maverick.”

Matthew Liedke

At his site, Liedke reviewed “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Hustle” and “Crimes of the Future.” He also wrote about mid-2000s Tom Cruise films “War of the Worlds” and “The Last Samurai.”

Ruth Maramis

On FlixChatter, Maramis reviewed the new “Top Gun” film, “Maverick.

Mark McPherson

At his site, McPherson reviewed the “Bob’s Burgers” film and “Jurassic World: Dominion.” He also produced video versions of his reviews on recent movies for his YouTube channel.

Frank Stanko

As part of his continued look at the films of 1998, Stanko wrote a review on “The Horse Whisperer” at the Pop Culturists.

Tyler Strandberg

At Cinefied, Strandberg wrote a review on the Hulu film “Fire Island.”

T.A. Wardrope

For Twin Cities Geek, Wardrope reviewed “Top Gun: Maverick.”
